Head of Operations

Overview
The Head of Operations at COSSNET is responsible for overseeing the seamless execution of all organizational activities, including events, social media posts, newsletters, and deadlines. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and effective communication to ensure all initiatives align with COSSNET's mission and goals.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning and execution of all events, most notably working with the Events Coordinator to plan the Pre-CaRMS Roundtable Series, ensuring they are well-organized and meet COSSNET standards.
- Supervise social media activities, including the approval of posts and the creation of content schedules.
- Manage internal affairs, including overseeing and responding to organizational emails, maintaining shared files, and ensuring proper documentation practices.
- Coordinate the production and distribution of newsletters, ensuring timely and relevant content.
- Manage deadlines for various projects and initiatives, ensuring timely completion.
- Lead monthly executive meetings, providing clear agendas and actionable outcomes.
- Facilitate resident outreach efforts and maintain active engagement with the Resident Advisory Board.
- Support the development and oversight of quarterly budgeting processes.
- Coordinate the Early Exposure to the Cutting Edge event at the COA Annual Meeting in collaboration with the COA staff.
Events Coordinator

Overview
The Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing virtual conferences, talks, and other online events hosted by COSSNET. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate virtual event logistics effectively.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Plan the Pre-CaRMS Roundtable in October, including coordination with all Orthopaedic Surgery programs across Canada.
- Coordinate one educational event (e.g., led by a staff member) and one networking event (e.g., led by residents).
- Plan the CaRMS Post-Match event in early April.
- Participate in the organization of the Early Exposure to the Cutting Edge event taking place at the COA/CORS/CORA Annual Meeting.
- Work with the Research Lead to collect data from events for research purposes.
- Collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator(s) and the Communications Lead to publish announcements about upcoming events on social media, the newsletter, and the website.
- Consistently monitor COSSNET’s Slack channel for announcements and to collaborate with other Executive Team members.
- Attend monthly Executive Team meetings.
Research Lead

Overview
The Research Lead is responsible for organizing mentorship opportunities, fostering collaborations with researchers, and facilitating research projects within COSSNET. This role requires strong research acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish and maintain relationships with researchers and mentors.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Work with external collaborators to develop and maintain a centralized research database containing active research projects, project banks, and available research grants.
- Collaborate with the Communications Lead to highlight relevant upcoming conferences, recently published research articles, and student research opportunities through newsletters and social media.
- Contribute to internal COSSNET-led research initiatives and projects.
- Identify and reach out to researchers, clinicians, and experts in orthopedic surgery to establish mentorship and research opportunities for students.
- Assist in organizing mentorship programs, matching interested students with appropriate mentors in the field of orthopedic surgery.
- Coordinate with the Events Coordinator to plan and host research-focused events, such as virtual symposiums or expert panel discussions.
Social Media Manager

Overview
The Social Media Manager is responsible for developing and implementing social media strategies to promote the activities, events, and initiatives of COSSNET. This role requires a strong understanding of various social media platforms and a creative mindset to engage the target audience effectively.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Post upcoming events and announcements on Instagram and X. Any post or story must be approved 48 hours in advance.
- Create monthly schedules for posting social media content.
- Design flyers and social media content using Canva.
- Ensure that the design of the social media content is consistent with COSSNET branding guidelines.
- Actively monitor social media platforms for relevant posts to re-share or bring to the attention of the Executive Team.
- Post the weekly “Case of the Week” on Instagram and X.
- Facilitate “Resident Takeovers” and content posted at the COA/CORS/CORA Annual Meeting.
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments, messages, and inquiries promptly, and foster engagement with followers.
- Collaborate with the French-speaking Ambassador to ensure fluid and timely translations of social media content when applicable.
- Consistently monitor COSSNET’s Slack channel for announcements, post the social media calendar, pre-approve social media content, and collaborate with other Executive Team members.
- Attend monthly Executive Team meetings.
